AI in AEC

I've made a commitment to facilitating dialog about AI in AECO and to rebuilding the culture of sharing among our local BIM community.

There is already so much information and so many choices in the BIM+AI arena that agreement on the “best” solution is impossible. Fortunately, my search quickly guided me to Stjepan Mikulik, a former BIM leader at Bjark Ingels Group (BIG).

Stjepan has taken the challenge of making sense of this phenomenon. He has created a free database of AI products for AEC. Sign up to gain access to free information about more than 1200 solutions for integrating AI in AEC

Celebrate Summer with SCRUG in L.A.

Alexa, how far is it from O.C. to the Long Beach Promenade? "It is twenty-four miles from Irvine to the Long Beach Promenade." Alexa, why should I attend SCRUG in L.A. ? "Because it's summer and you deserve a break." It's possible that your spouse or significant other has no idea what you do, and may not have seen the cool technology involved in BIM and VDC. Please bring them along for this special meeting. There are plans for an after-party at 111, and that's just one block from the Long Beach Promenade. This Thursday will be an excellent opportunity for you to network with colleagues from across the profession. That is SCRUG's primary purpose. If you attended any of our recent meeting you know what to expect. We apologize for the short notice. There will be a limit on the number of attendees. Thursday, June 21, 2018 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Please RSVP at SCRUG.Anyvite.com . No “maybes”. Thanks to our sponsors Kelar Pacific, Mic...

BIM-4-Homebuilders

Building Information Modeling  has gained acceptance in market sectors other than home building. BIM has become a requirement for large and complex projects, but even with the current upturn in the housing market, many builders - and the designers who serve them - are hesitant to get involved. At the SCRUG BIM Housing Forum , a panel of the leading residential architects and builders in Orange County will discuss their outlook with regard to Building Information Modeling.  The purpose of the conference is to promote the awareness, adoption and use of BIM and other advanced technologies within the housing industry in Southern California. The BIM-4-Homebuilders Conference will define and clarify: What is happening in the residential BIM world? What is possible? What does "collaboration" really mean?  How can we reduce cost and/or increase profit. How does BIM support Lean, Green, and Sustainable architecture? What is the "M...

February SCRUG Meeting

Colleagues, The South Coast Revit Users Group will reconvene on Thursday, February 2nd, featuring a presentation by BIM pioneer Clive Jordan , Founder and CEO of LOD Planner. In 2004 Vico Software (then a division of Graphisoft) began work on a Model Progression Specification (MPS). Webcor Builders teamed with Vico to further develop the concept, and then brought it to the technology subcommittee of the AIA California Council’s Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) Task Force. The AIA National Documents Committee adopted the approach, provided further development, and incorporated it into E202, published in 2008. (See The Paths to BIM Nirvana ) The core of the MPS is the LOD definitions – descriptions of the steps through which a BIM element can logically progress from the lowest level of conceptual approximation to the highest level of representational precision. As explained by favorite BIM blogger Antony McPhee, “LOD, as in "Level of Development", is a measure of h...
